A word from Dee:

"I’ve been swinging my clubs at Stoney Creek way back when it was Driving range.  SCGC has come a long way I can’t begin to list all the reasons why, but I’ll try.

In my opinion, Stoney Creek isn’t your basic par 3 nine holer.  I’ve played other par 3 courses and executive 9’s around and they can’t touch what SCGC has to offer.  This Course will challenge every shot that a person has in their bag.  That’s why you see most of our customers bringing out a full set of golf clubs, because they’re going to use all of them.  On other courses they’d need maybe 4 clubs and a putter because they layout is short, boring and “shot making challenged.”

I’m the type of golfer who gets into a course.  Meaning, I can smell the grass, I feel nature and hear the animals around me, all the elements of a course’s surroundings and my game.  I like the challenge of shot making, “Can I go around this tree, what do I need to carry this hazard?” You get all that and then some at Stoney Creek.  (SCGC isn’t your grandfather’s par 3 course; you got another thing coming brother).

Larry Root is the type of person you want to see at a golf course.  When you go to a golf course, the first thing you do is go to the front counter in the pro shop.  At that moment you can usually get an idea of how the course does business.  Sometimes good, sometimes not so good and that can set the tempo and mood for your round.  Larry is everything that exemplifies professionalism and then some.  Larry is professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and funny and his customer service is second to none.  Larry’s passion for golf hits you from the moment you walk through the door.  It’s very contagious.  Why do you think most of the customers have been playing there from day one!

Stoney Creek is where people go to play, have fun and get everything that the great game of golf has to offer."

Ron’s Practice Tips

Practice Playing on the Range!

Before you start to practice, set 10-15 balls aside.  When you have hit the remaining balls do the following.

  • Picture a hole you play often.
  • Pick two yardage signs and visualize that as your fairway.
  • Tee up a ball.
  • Pick the club you usually use to hit the tee shot on that hole.
  • Hit the shot.
  • Put the club back in your bag.
  • Pick up another ball and toss it on the ground.
  • Picture how far you would have left for your second shot.
  • Pick out a club to hit the second shot with.
  • Pick out the target.
  • Hit the shot.
  • Do this over and over with the balls you set aside.
  •
  • When you get to the course you will have already played the first couple of holes on the range.  This technique will give you more confidence when playing.
  •
  •
  • Variations:
  •
  • Use this technique while picturing holes that give you the most trouble and you will see improvement on those holes.
  • Hit an entire basket of balls using this technique.
  • Self Talk:
  •
  • When you play golf, how do you talk to yourself?
  • Are your comments or thoughts positive?
  • Are your comments or thoughts negative?
  •
  • "Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right."
  •
  • How many times have you thought you wouldn’t make a particular shot or putt, and you turned out to be right when you didn’t make it?
  • If after a bad shot, do you tell yourself what you did wrong or do you show yourself what you should do right?
  • Do you see water, out-of-bounds, or some other place you don’t want to hit the ball, then day something like, “don’t go there?”  Where do you usually hit the ball after one of those negative thoughts?
  • Yep, right where you didn’t want it to go.
